Animal Communication
As humans, we seek connection. And we don’t just find it in our fellow humans, we form close bonds with the animals in our lives. We find mutual love, we commit to caring for them, we make memories with them…they become a part of our family. As someone who struggled to make friends as a child and teenager, it was with animals that I felt most at ease and at my happiest.
When our pets pass, we grieve them just as much as we would any human family member. Sometimes even more. We long to know if they’re ok, if they knew we loved them, and in some cases we have overwhelming guilt if we didn’t notice an illness until it was too late (I have learned the hard way that animals are experts at hiding any ailments) and we want them to know that we’re sorry we couldn’t do more.
How do our pets communicate?
Let’s face it, in most cases we can look at our pets and know what they are thinking. Factors such as facial expressions and body language are a big part of communication, but we also get a feeling. We can feel their discomfort, their anticipation, their joy, their anxieties and all the other feelings they experience throughout their day. In fact, it’s that “feeling” that alerts owners that something is not quite right with their friend, long before any behavioural changes or physical symptoms. We just know.
When a pet passes to Spirit, we often still feel them around us. Their Soul, which is eternal, leaves their physical body. But we can still feel their presence at times, we sense them around us, and like our human friends in Spirit, they are watching over us, spending times with us and at times trying to guide and inspire us.
Communication without Words
Last year, I wrote a blog entry on the Language of the Universe in which I explored that unspoken connection we feel between other people and how this language that uses no words allows us to communicate and feel the presence of those in the Spirit World. Words only say so much.
I have heard some Mediums say that animals do not communicate from Spirit because they cannot talk. They cannot hold a conversation and therefore it is not possible to have pets communicate in a reading. (Side note: There are a variety of birds that can learn human speech, and whilst some do have the capacity to develop an understanding of the words they use, they are generally mimicking what they hear around them and are not putting their complex thoughts into words.)
My response to the above theory is this: There are very few Mediums who receive communication from Spirit in the form of full sentences. Most Mediums receive communication through emotions, images, smells and many more different ways! Based on my personal experience of doing readings and having someone’s beloved pet come in, animals absolutely can communicate from Spirit! Their personalities come across, their bond with their family, they remember where they slept, the car or van they used to travel in…it’s a wonderful experience to work with a pet who is in Spirit! They are usually full of excitement to communicate in this way, which I personally find adorable. As with any Mediumship reading I do, I cannot guarantee who will show up so it’s always a pleasant surprise when I realise I’ll be working with an animal friend!
I’ve also heard some Mediums say that the animal does in fact speak to them in a human voice, whether they are reading the pet who is physically still alive, or has passed to Spirit. I’m not sure how I feel about that. For me, talking animals feels a little bit too Disney! Would I be convinced by a reading in which my pet was “speaking” to them? I’m not sure. And as I have said several times before: Words only say so much.
Advice When Seeking An Animal Communicator
First off, decide what it is you want. Some people use “Psychic” and “Medium” interchangeably although they are actually different things. Psychic is reading a Soul that has a physical body. Mediumship is reading a Soul which does not have a physical body i.e. Someone in the Spirit World. Many readers do both but it’s a good idea to check anyway! Often this sort of information will be on their website or social media page, and it will give you a sense of the person who will be conducting the reading for you and your precious pet, so you might want to check they feel like the right person for you.
I’ve noticed that some Pet Psychics, Animal Communicators etc. charge very high amounts for private readings. Please be aware that top price doesn’t always mean top quality. If you’re having trouble finding the right person at the right price, I know it’s hard to wait, especially if you’re desperate to check that your pet is ok, but it’s best to hold off until you’re sure you have the right Medium. On another side note, the above also applies if you’re looking for any kind of Psychic or Mediumship reading!
One Last Thing…
If your pet has recently passed, please be assured that they are absolutely still with you, even if you’re not sure. When a random memory of them pops into your head, or you think you hear them or see them out of the corner of your eye, you are definitely NOT losing your mind, and your wonderful animal friend is trying to let you know they are still in a very special place in your heart. I like to imagine that mine are a part of my Spirit Team now! I also like the idea that once they’ve passed, somebody will be with them, caring for them, until I pass to Spirit. It might be a human family member, a friend or just a wonderful animal lover in Spirit who wants to take care of them, and they’ll be there waiting when I make that trip to Spirit World.
