The Soul: How to Hear It

A phrase I hear a lot is “Soul Purpose.” What’s my Soul purpose? How do I find it? What if I never find it? It helps to begin by understanding what the Soul is exactly. Different cultures, religions, individuals will all have different understandings and definitions. The Soul is the purest form of ourselves. Before we had physical bodies, we were Souls and when we pass that’s what we will return to. Everyone has a different image in their head of what a Soul looks like, it’s shape etc. None of them are wrong. Our Soul is completely unique to us. When we are stripped of all physical aspects of ourselves, all the life events good or bad, everything we’ve seen, heard or done, our Soul is the one thing left standing.

Does every single person have one?

Yes. This can be hard to believe at times, when we look at what goes on in the world we live in. People say and do terrible things, commit heinous offenses. So why doesn’t their Soul stop them?

The busier and more chaotic our lives are, the harder it becomes to hear our own Soul. We live in a world that is fast paced, full of distraction. This often leads us to move into Survival Mode. By survival, I don’t just mean the fighting for your life scenarios, although it does feel like that sometimes! I mean constantly stressing about money, about keeping a roof overhead. I mean living in an environment where abuse is rife, both physical and emotional. Any situation where we feel like we’re constantly striving for something, chasing or avoiding something will push our Soul right to the back burner. And when the Soul stays there too long, it gets forgotten, because the physical need of the human, potential threats and constant distraction, is overriding it.

Listen to the Soul

It’s never impossible to tune into our own Soul. Regardless of our upbringing, our beliefs, wherever we are right now, we all have access to that inner wisdom. When we slow down, remove ourselves from the chaos and the drama of the every day, we slowly begin to give our Souls room to breathe again, and room to express.

This sounds easy, and for some it comes as natural as breathing. For those of us who have had a lot of traumas, grown up in difficult surroundings or have been conditioned by the world around us to be in constant pursuit of the material things in life, it can be a more challenging journey.

Learning to differentiate the Mind and the Soul

I think this is the hardest part! How do we know what is the Soul trying to guide us, and what is our minds shouting over the top and telling us what we want? Part of the answer is how I worded the question there, the Soul is a whisper, a calm amongst the storm, a gentle nudge. The mind is stubborn, shouts and screams what it wants and has a tantrum when it doesn’t get it! It should also be noted that the Mind tends to focus on material things, it will try to chase something that will offer more money or status. The Soul doesn’t care about that. The Soul will gently push you towards something regardless of the outcome. Often it’s something you do without thinking, or questioning.

Tuning into Your Soul

Practice. Find what works for you. Being able to practice mindfulness and meditation daily is a great place to start, even if it’s only for short periods of time. I used to use an app called “Headspace” to help me with this, and there are numerous meditations available on YouTube to help. (Kay Reynolds is one of my favourites for a beautiful “Sitting in The Power.”) Another way to learn to hear your inner wisdom is journaling. Making time every day to sit down and write. It can feel very forced at first, and it feels like we’re just writing down a load of rubbish, but it helps you to tune in to what’s going on in your head, and to slowly pick through and find the subtle messages your Soul is sending you.

This is also where a great psychic reading can play a part! A psychic reading is different from a Mediumship reading as it’s all about you. It tunes in to your Soul and highlights what’s happened and what’s going on, giving you clarity and understanding.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, each and every one of us are on a journey in this life, and we’re all here to learn. Whatever the hand we were dealt in life, it is ultimately our own personal responsibility to make the decisions as to whether we are going to choose to learn from our Soul, or run from it.

We’re all going to stumble, get lost and make a mess of things at times, but we can always rely on our Soul to get us back on track when we learn to listen.
